Our History

Founded in 1878 by Emperor Alexander II as the Imperial Siberian University, Tomsk State University (TSU) is the oldest classical university in the Asian part of Russia. Established to bring education and innovation to Siberia, TSU opened its doors in 1888 with its Faculty of Medicine, followed by Law. Today, it stands as a National Research University, recognized for its contributions to science, technology, and medical education.

With 31 members of Russian and CIS academies, over 50 State Prize winners, and two Nobel laureates among its alumni and affiliates, TSU is a beacon of academic excellence.
